Conserving habitat for the benefit of birds, other wildlife and people…

For Land Managers and Industry Associations

A hardened cattle water-access point has been installed to prevent damage to wetlands at a CIJV project in the Cariboo-Chilcotin Region.

CIJV partners also work with organizations that have larger land holdings and/or that are managed by associations or local governments. For example, our partnership with BC Cattleman’s Association includes providing best management practices, such as advice on how their members can implement wildlife and wetland friendly livestock practices on their ranches.

Agricultural Stewardship

We work with agricultural producers on Environmental Farm Planning and Beneficial Management Practices. For more information, visit the BC Government’s Environmental Farm Plan Program Website.

Green Bylaws Toolkit

We work with local governments to provide tools they can use to protect green infrastructure https://stewardshipcentrebc.ca/green-bylaws-toolkit/.

Crown Land Conservation

The CIJV partnership collaborates with the Province of British Columbia and environmental non-governmental organization partners to identify Crown lands with high quality wetland and associated upland habitat for protective designation.

For example, the Conservation Lands Partnership Program includes:

  • Environment and Climate Change Canada
  • Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development
  • Ministry of Environment and Climate Strategy
  • Ducks Unlimited Canada
  • The Nature Trust of British Columbia
  • The Nature Conservancy of Canada
  • The Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation

Each of these partners shares a strong interest in conserving land for its fish and wildlife habitat values. This includes both acquiring private land and securing complementary Crown land. The program works to: 1) Conserve wildlife values on provincial Crown lands for conservation purposes, 2) Provide advice and support for matters relating to management of provincial conservation lands.
